We're here in beautiful downtown Santa Rosa, NM, and just finished a gourmet meal at Denny's! It was another beautiful day, with some high cirrus clouds to the north and a lot of aircraft contrails overhead that spread into thin clouds. It had to be in the high 60's today, because it got HOT in the car, so we turned on the Air Conditioning for most of the afternoon. Tomorrow looks to be the same except we'll be higher altitudes. WonderMom drove for a while this afternoon so the old man could catch a quick nap.s
Gas prices are a little askew from what they've been in the past. The lowest we've seen so far for 86/87 octane unleaded was $1.28 on I-270 around St. Louis. Oklahoma, where gas is usually the cheapest was $1.36 - 1.40, and Texas was $1.44 - 1.50. New Mexico is about like home, $1.6?? We put in about 650 miles today, and tomorrow looks like about 580, so about an hour shorter. You'll be happy to hear that The Big Cross and Cadillac Ranch are still there! Seems like a lot more wind turbines have been put up in OK and TX.
I think this new itinerary will work out fine if we can find some motels we like and can afford! We stayed Best Western in Joplin and Santa Rosa. They apparently didn't get the memo about putting the bathroom light and exhaust fans on separate switches - very irritating!
Looking forward to getting in to Phoenix tomorrow and getting settled in. Talk to you then.
