Southwest Airlines performed flawlessly once again, and carried us home from our visit with Shimmy in good time. We pulled into our carport at midnight and promptly crashed! Then we got up and unloaded the luggage and went to bed, Our own warm, cushy bed!
Shimmy has a futon (hard surface with a thin pad on it) in a cold room, for us to sleep on. Now, it is not terrible, but when you are used to a water bed, it leaves something to be desired. We don’t have a water bed in our trailer, but we do have an excellent inner spring mattress with a heated mattress pad that approximates the warmth of our water bed. It’s good to be home in your own warm bed!
We had an excellent visit with Shimmy, and wish we could see her more often, preferably on our turf. California does not agree with us! It has nice weather when it’s not raining, and pretty trees and foliage year around, that needs to be mowed, or trimmed, or landscaped year around. I can barely deal with lawn care 6 months of the year and have been researching ways to replace grass with a non-growing substitute - with little success. Here in Phoenix, the typical yard is rock arranged to look nice and a few cacti. Not good for kids’ play, but easy on Dad!
Now Shimmy’s neighborhood may not be typical, but this regular trimming is performed by hired hands who like to put on their performance at 7:30AM every morning, on a lot near you. We prefer being awakened by songbirds rather than mowers and leaf blowers, but that’s just me, and WonderMom! Shimmy is the lone holdout on her block, and Sysguy mows and blows every other weekend, or so - year around! Did I mention that the lawns are postage stamp size by Midwest standards. Shimmy’s yard is about the largest on the block and it’s maybe a 15 minute job to mow!
And traffic is atrocious! I suppose i could get used to it, but why? Phoenix has nasty traffic, too, just not as much of it. Of course the price of gas is always about 15% higher in CA, a definite downer!
Enough of my whining - I seem to do that a lot anymore. We left Shimmy with our standard guilt trip message, that we wish she didn’t live so far away from us! She politely responds, “Me, too!”
Today was busy. Cox Cable was here at 8:30AM and connected my cable TV and Internet properly, hence the blog this evening. Then it was off to the local Walley-World to stock our empty larder, and back home to put things away. Getting the complete computer network in place (Voyager and Viking are still in their carrying cases) will have to wait until tomorrow. I’ll let you know how that works out, tomorrow.
